DESIGN CHALLENGE
The challenge of this project was to design, plan and develop a prototype for a hiking navigation app that uses Augmented reality (AR). The aim was to provide hikers, both seasoned and newcomers, with an intuitive and immersive tool that enhances their outdoor experience by seamlessly integrating technology into their journeys. Traverse helps take the pressure off hikers by providing the logistics of their hike at a glance.

DESIGN SOLUTION
The solution is an app that enables a hiker to use their phone to view the highlighted trail, campsites, shelters, available water sources, road crossings, and possible emergency turn off points if they needed to get back to town quickly. The app also displays alerts that could impacts the user’s hike such as wildlife sightings, hazardous weather, fire warnings, or wildlife conservation areas. In short, Traverse helps take the pressure off hikers by providing the logistics of their hike at a glance. Users can have a safe and enjoyable hike knowing they are following the correct trail and any upcoming features.
